Amazon’s EU Operations Legal team is looking for a talented legal professional to support the dynamic work that our team is doing to track, analyze, and advise our businesses regarding EU Green Deal proposals and similar sustainability-related proposals across the EU and UK.

The preferred location would be Luxembourg however we may also consider Milan, Munich, London or Brussels. The role will report in to EU Green Deal Legal Lead Counsel. Some travel may be required.

Key job responsibilities

As Compliance Specialist for EU Operations Legal, you will partner closely with the EU Green Deal Legal Lead Counsel, EU Operations Legal team, EU and WW Sustainability teams, Public Policy, and impacted businesses to support analysis, policy engagement, and compliance for a wide-range of sustainability-related policy proposals and obligations. You will develop, implement, and lead mechanisms to coordinate and share information between key stakeholders, and participate in strategic meetings with leadership and key stakeholders.

A day in the life

  • Coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders to align on support and responsibility for specific policy proposals;
  • Overseeing and updating centralized mechanisms and databases used to coordinate with and share information between relevant stakeholders;
  • Partnering with EU Green Deal Legal Lead Counsel to maintain visibility over key projects and issues;
  • Implementing simplifications to improve support and coordination; and
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for internal inquiries relating to the EU Green Deal team.

About the team

The EU Green Deal Legal team leads Amazon's legal support for EU Green Deal and related proposals by (1) serving as the primary legal support for certain issues (incl. Sustainability Reporting, Supply Due Diligence, and Governance), and (2) overseeing other legal leads who are responsible for issues that fall within their scope and expertise.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Exceptional/Outstanding academic qualifications;
  • 3+ years of experience working with legal and compliance issues; and
  • Demonstrated proficiency with databases and collaborative working mechanisms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in, and experience working on, ESG matters;
  • Hands-on project management experience, including excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize a large number of projects;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Attention to detail; and
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.
