Swiss Life Luxembourg is currently looking for a Senior Legal Counsel – Life Insurance & Cross-Border Specialist.

As a member of the Legal Department of Swiss Life Luxembourg, reporting to the Head of Legal, you will play a key role in supporting the development of Swiss Life’s cross-border life insurance activities under Freedom of Services (FoS), with a strong focus on wealth structuring and high-net-worth clients.

Your Role

  • Provide pragmatic and strategic legal advice to business teams, with a focus on life insurance wealth solutions distributed on a cross-border basis;
  • Identify and manage legal and regulatory risks linked to the distribution of wealth insurance products, including aspects related to policyholder protection, tax considerations and local regulatory constraints;
  • Advise on and support the structuring of life insurance solutions used within wealth planning structures (e.g. holdings, trusts, foundations, or similar arrangements), including analysis of their legal and regulatory implications across jurisdictions;
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of complex legal documentation, including:
  • life insurance contracts (notably savings/unit-linked products),
  • distribution agreements (cross-border),
  • depositary and asset management agreements,
  • service level agreements;
  • Liaise with experts in different jurisdictions;
  • Handle complex complaints and litigations, particularly in an international context;
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments in the relevant markets, assess their impact on cross-border insurance activities and advise on implementation;
  • Contribute to internal committees and strategic projects, bringing legal expertise on cross-border business development;
  • Draft internal policies and training materials related to cross-border insurance distribution and wealth structuring.

Your Profile

  • Master’s degree in law (mandatory); Bar admission in an EU country is an asset;
  • Several years of experience in a regulated environment, with strong expertise in:
  • life insurance markets and practices (savings / wealth products), particularly in France (essential), Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, and Finland,
  • cross-border distribution;
  • Good understanding of private wealth environments and wealth structuring tools (e.g. holdings, trusts, foundations) and their interaction with life insurance products;
  • Ability to navigate multi-jurisdictional legal and regulatory frameworks;
  • Excellent communication skills with both legal and non-legal stakeholders;
  • Fluent in French and English; additional European languages are an asset;
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage complex, high-value matters autonomously;
  • Business-oriented mindset, proactive approach, and strong team spirit.
