The Legal Counsel supports the Head of Legal Office by providing legal advice with respect to a broad range of issues. The Legal Office delivers legal services to all the departments and units of the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH). It supports LIH researchers and staff with respect to the legal and regulatory aspects of their scientific research activities. It also supports the administrative, operations, and technical functions as well as LIH’s management and governing bodies by advising on all relevant legal risks.

Key accountabilities

  • Advise on a variety of regulatory issues, strategic projects, litigation, and other legal department operational matters.
  • Support LIH’s researchers in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating research collaboration agreements, knowledge transfer-related contracts, licensing agreements, etc...
  • Supports the conclusion and execution of grant agreements with funding agencies,
  • Monitor ongoing legislative and regulatory changes in the area of life science, digital health, data privacy, public procurement, and state aid,
  • Design and provide training courses to internal stakeholders on relevant legal matters,
  • Identify potential productivity improvements and implement relevant processes to ensure an effective operation of the legal function,
  • Provide legal advice to LIH’s administrative functions with respect to matters related to the Institute’s governance and administration. 

Key skills, experience and qualifications

  • Master’s degree in law,
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience,
  • Prior law firm experience in Luxembourg would constitute an asset,
  • Fluency in English and French; good knowledge of German and/or Luxembourgish would constitute an asset,
  • Ideally, prior experience in the following fields: life sciences/health law, intellectual property, data privacy, public procurement, and state aid,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Team player, proactive, reliable and client-oriented.
