Job Purpose: 

The main purpose of the role will be to provide Tokio Marine Europe S.A (TME) with subject matter expertise, advice, and support on legal and regulatory matters, in connection with the Benelux market.  

Based in Luxembourg or Barcelona and reporting to the Head of Legal & Regulatory Affairs - Tokio Marine Europe (TME) branches, this role within our Legal and Regulatory Affairs Branch management team of the Tokio Marine Europe (TME) Legal and Compliance function, will support the Legal team and ensure we maintain a proactive culture on regulatory matters. 

The postholder will be well-organised and proactive, providing timely advice and support on legal and regulatory matters. In doing so, the capability to understand the business, engage with stakeholders, as well as provide high quality reporting with a strong attention to detail, will be crucial to success. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Advice on general corporate legal matters and provide oral and written advice and solutions to the business.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contractual agreements.
  • Ensure proper identification and implementation of the Tokio Marine Europe (TME) regulatory obligations for insurance activities of our Head office in Luxembourg, TME branches in Belgium and the Netherlands,, and any other Tokio Marine Europe (TME) branches where this is needed.
  • Ensure that regulatory requirements are properly understood by all business units and staff therein by way of regular training, the coordination and dissemination of relevant regulatory notifications or association circulars and assisting with the operational transposition of requirements into business procedures.
  • Be the contact person with the regulatory authorities in Belgium and the Netherlands.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate submission of regulatory filings to local regulators and assist where required with Tokio Marine Europe (TME) Head office disclosures. 
  • Liaise with the branch managers or legal representatives and the business line managers to improve understanding of all the risks in the business.
  • Identifying, reporting, recording, analysing and escalating incidents and breaches.
  • Monitor emerging and developing local regulatory changes within the market, consultation papers and policy statements issued by relevant regulatory authorities and wider international bodies, liaising as necessary with the TME Legal & Compliance team, the TMHCCI Compliance team, on how any such developments may impact Tokio Marine Europe (TME).
  • Contribute and assist as required in the implementation of the functions activities as per the TME Legal & Compliance Plan.
  • Assist in ad-hoc projects and tasks with legal & regulatory elements.
  • Contribute to regular internal reports for the department.
  • Become the Complaints’ contact person of Tokio Marine Europe Branches in Belgium and the Netherlands.
  • Assist and oversee the performance of external legal counsel representing the company in outsourced matters, including litigations.
  • Attend or follow local Insurance Association forums.
  • You will be required to travel from time to time to the offices in Belgium and Netherlands and other Tokio Marine offices (Luxembourg, London, or Barcelona, depending on where you will be based).



Performance Objectives:  

  • Perform a mapping of regulatory requirements and legal obligations applicable to the jurisdictions of your responsibility.
  • Contribute towards the objectives and priorities as defined in the Tokio Marine Europe Legal & Compliance Plan, by way of regular status updates.
  • Ensuring all regulatory filings to local regulators and authorities of the branches of your responsibility.
  • Identify and regularly interact with key stakeholders.


 
 

Essential Skills and Experience Specification: 

  • Fluent in English and French is required.
  • Law degree or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or Master of Laws (LL.M).
  • Experience in a similar role, within the insurance industry in any of the countries of the Benelux area.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a high level of problem solving and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage own workload, prioritizing tasks appropriately and ensuring that agreed delivery dates are achieved.
  • Experience working in a proactive way, collaborating with colleagues, following up tasks appropriately and keeping the team up to date on activities and progress.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders either face-to-face or virtual.

  

Desirable: 

  • Experience in an international company.
  • Proficiency in Dutch is a plus.
