Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Compliance Officer in our Compliance Department in Continental Europe. 

The Compliance Department is a cornerstone of trust within the insurance industry. We work closely with business units to navigate evolving insurance regulations, manage conduct and operational risks, and uphold strong governance across all products and processes. What you’ll be doing:

  • Assist with maintaining and enhancing the existing corporate compliance program in the EU region and ensuring Sompo International is in compliance with local laws and regulations and help building out policies, processes and procedures to align with Sompo International standards.
  • Help ensure the Sompo International local country entities maintain ongoing regulatory compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, including the maintenance, development and or harmonisation of necessary policies and procedures.
  • Support the Head of Compliance with internal reporting, regulatory filings, notifications, and correspondence; Contribute to governance bodies, risk committees and Board discussions; Assist in updating of the annual compliance plan.
  • Support compliance with AML/CFT, and regulatory obligations
  • Respond to compliance queries from Company branch offices.
  • Respond in a timely fashion to sanctions queries from underwriting colleagues
  • Support the Product Oversight Group in assessing new products for compliance including in reviewing target market 
  • Manage and report on complaints, prepare management information as necessary
  • Manage periodic reporting to Japanese Head Office on compliance matters  
  • Assist with regional compliance training.
  • Collaborate closely with the Sompo International European-based Legal team, global Legal & Compliance Department and other business units (Management, Underwriting, Multinational Team, etc.) on cross-jurisdictional and international projects

What you’ll bring:

  • 3+ years’ experience in insurance industry compliance and regulatory affairs is preferred within a global insurance organisation.
  • Preferably a law degree background. Expertise in Compliance, Risk Management, or AML is highly valued. Certifications (CAMS, ICA) are an asset.
  • Well-organised with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and meet internal and external regulatory deadlines.
  • Team oriented and able to work collaboratively and effectively with business clients and other legal and compliance department members.
  • Possess excellent English language skills, and proficiency in one of the following languages: German, Italian, French and/or Spanish is highly desirable
