ALBAD

The Luxembourg association of librarians, archivists and documentalists (ALBAD) was founded in 1991.

The mission is to provide leadership for the development, promotion and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all citizens.  

ALBAD is the only officially recognized national Luxembourgish association by the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA).

What do we stand for?

- We take position on current critical issues related to libraries and library services throughout the country.

- We promote efforts ensuring that all individuals have equal access to libraries and information services.

- We provide, to all our members, information regarding library services and other library science related topics.

Priorities and Goals

- Make sure that librarians are recognized as professionals responsible for ensuring the free flow of information and ideas to present and future generations of library users.

- Make sure that libraries are recognized as proactive agencies essential to the cultural and educational life of society

- Promote recruitment, education, professional development, rights, interests, and obligations of library staff.

- Offer a variety of opportunities for professional development and continuing education.

- Organize workshops and conferences open to all our members as well as to the general public.

- Provide job information and career services to prospective students increase collaboration between librarians and archivists.

- Establish strong relationships between us and our neighbour countries, in order to allow exchanges and collaboration through meetings and cultural events.

- Establish dialogue between our association and the local governing authorities.
