Master in Economics and Finance joins European network

The Master in Economics and Finance offered at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance has been certified by the European Master in Official Statistics (EMOS) network. EMOS is a network of Master programmes providing postgraduate education in the area of official statistics at European level. It is a joint project between universities and data producers in Europe, with some 20 programmes in 14 countries now carrying the EMOS label.

The University of Luxembourg’s Master in Economics and Finance was awarded the EMOS certificate, issued by the European Statistical system (ESS), earlier this year with a validity until 2020. Universities offering EMOS Master degrees collaborate actively with national statistical institutes (such as STATEC in Luxembourg) to reduce the gap between theory and practice. STATEC played an active role in the EMOS certification process and continues to support the programme.

EMOS was set up to strengthen the collaboration within academia and producers of official statistics and help develop professionals able to work with European official data at different levels in the fast-changing production system of the 21st century. The EMOS Master degree is based on learning outcomes which familiarise the graduates with the system of official statistics, production models, statistical methods and dissemination.

The EMOS label comes in addition to the Master in Economics in Finance being accredited by FIBAA at the end of 2015, together with four other FDEF Master programmes. It is further proof of the programme’s high standard and excellent education and training offered to students.
