CMS strengthens its presence in Luxembourg

New fully operational corporate and tax teams join CMS

Two reputated teams join CMS in Luxembourg, reflecting the success of the firm globally as well as the dynamism of Luxembourg as a financial centre.

With the integration of these teams, active respectively in Corporate M&A and Tax, CMS realizes a major expansion of its activities in Luxembourg.

The new Tax team is led by Frédéric Feyten and Jean-Dominique Morelli, both partners and experienced practitioners. Frédéric Feyten was notably recognised in Chambers and Partners (Band 2) for his "very strong technical backing'' and "excellent knowledge of the international arena".

The new Corporate M&A team includes two partners, Gerard Maitrejean, also recognised by Chambers and Partners (Band 3) as well as Legal 500 (Tier 2) and described by clients as "dedicated and solution oriented', and Pawel Hermelinski, recommended in Legal 500 and described by clients as "incredibly knowledgeable". Building on these hires, the team will be further strengthened by the internal promotion of Sylvain Elias as partner, also recommended in Legal 500.

The addition of these teams combined with several new hires in other practices, notably in the Investment Funds team led by partners Aurélien Hollard and Benjamin Bada, significantly strengthens CMS's presence in Luxembourg as well as its expertise in these key practices. The firm will be organised around four core areas of expertise - Corporate M&A, Investment Funds, Banking & Finance and Tax -while remaining a full-service law firm.

New management structure

Additionally, a new management structure has been confirmed.
The Managing Partner responsibilities will be taken over by Frédéric Feyten.

Renaud Dupont, Managing Partner of CMS Belgium, commented: "We are particularly pleased to have contributed to the new development of CMS Luxembourg and we look forward to continuing the historical partnership. The addition of these new capabilities will strengthen the collaboration and synergies between CMS Belgium and CMS Luxembourg, allowing both firms to better serve all undertakings active in Luxembourg and Belgium."

Vivian Walry, founding partner of CMS Luxembourg, who is supervising the integration, said: "Having co-founded CMS Luxembourg almost 10 years ago, it has been an exciting journey so far and I am looking forward to this new milestone in the firm's development.

"Together with every member of the firm, we are designing innovative and technology-driven solutions to stay ahead of the challenges our clients are facing while focusing on key economic sectors, seamlessly covering the fields of law, tax and finance, and compliance with the highest-quality standards."

Frédéric Feyten, newly appointed Managing Partner, added: "My teams and I are delighted to join CMS. This is a great opportunity for us to build a modern firm and I am already impressed by the commitment of the teams to make this a successful leap."

CMS Luxembourg now counts more than 40 lawyers, including eight partners. The teams are already available to respond to clients' requests.
