Clarification on the position of Bank Marzaki against Clearstream

This press release aims to clarify news published by the international and Luxembourg press in relation to the writ issued by the Central Bank of Iran against Clearstream, and aimed at recovering the assets deposited with the latter since many years ago.

Bank Markazi is Iran’s national bank, and its task is to preserve and manage the public wealth of Iranian nation. Its assets enjoy immunity under international law.

By the judicial action introduced in Luxembourg, the Central Bank of Iran is acting to protect its rights by simply asking remittal of its assets deposited in an account, and unduly blocked without a valid and legal basis by Clearstream.

Bank Markazi has nothing to do with terrorism or financing of terrorist acts. To date no money judgment has been duly issued against it by competent and impartial courts. As such the US judgments are not enforceable in Luxembourg.
